Cross training is merely actively doing a variety of workouts. It can be in the same workout or over the course of several workouts.

There are generally 3 disciplines: aerobic, resistance training, and stretching. A solid cross training regimen includes all three to some degree.

Let me give you an example, a single cross training workout might be include:

Workout: 30 minutes on an elliptical, 15 minutes resistance training, and 25 minutes stretching.

Or, it may be over the several work outs and be as follows:

Day 1: 45 minute run.

Day 2: 30 minutes of weight lifting and 30 minutes of core work.

Day 3: 35 minutes using an exercise bike and 25 minutes stretching.

Day 4: 40 minutes rowing workout followed by 20 minutes of stretching.

Benefits of cross training:

1. You get to stop doing the same workout all the time. Mix it up and have more fun with variety.

2. Getting in peak shape and being a peak performer is more likely if you do cross training so you condition your entire body – all muscles and systems. Cross training does this.

3. You can minimize the chance of over-training. For example, if you weight lift one day, then the following two days you can do cardio and stretching to let your muscles recover. If you weight lift every single day (unless you split up your muscle groups), then you can over train.

4. Have fun learning new skills that may benefit your primary workout activity. For example, weight training can make you stronger for running.

You can also cross train within a workout discipline. For example, you can do weight training in such a way so that one time it is anaerobic (rest between sets) and aerobic by doing super-sets.

Most often, the rule of thumb is, “More is better.” In other words, practice more, and you’ll get better at what you do with better results. However, with gaining muscle, most of us need to be working out less, not more.

If you really want to gain muscle and you’re just the “average guy,” you’ll need to do something different to get the muscles you want. Instead of training more, train less.

You should begin to see results in about eight weeks if you follow just a couple of simple rules.

1. Don’t overdo the amount of weight you train with. Don’t think about what others are lifting. You know it’s working for you when you find it challenging. Your training should consist of muscle building workouts that hit larger muscle groups. These methods hit the most muscle with one exercise. Squats are good for this.

2. The second rule is, only train a maximum of three to four times a week. The thing is, you need to take off at least a day for every day you work out (meaning a day between workouts). That does a couple of things. First of all, when you’re working out intensely, you’re breaking down muscle and in effect injuring it. When it heals, it comes back bigger, stronger, faster. But you need to give it time to do that. And the second thing is, you’re also training your entire nervous system. When you train intensively, you don’t just affect your muscles. You also affect your nervous system in general. So you need to give both your muscles and your nervous system time to recover.

If your nervous system hasn’t recovered, you’re not going to do any good with further training and in fact may give yourself a setback; that’s because if you haven’t let your nervous system recover, it’s not going to be able to cope right. Give it time to catch up. If you don’t recover, you can’t build muscle. Try this; after your training session, take one day or two days off as a break. See how you feel and don’t overdo it, but so keep challenging yourself moderately and within limits.

Many people will attempt this for a short time and then go back to their old ways. The fact is that if you have been using particular weightlifting programs which haven’t worked, then something is wrong. Look at doing things differently.

After taking some Herbal Diet pills in the past…I came to a really sickening realization…

While they are ‘ephedra free’ and are supposedly totally natural and safe, I don’t think I’d ever felt so polluted and ill in my life. A year later I discovered that the FDA had banned the same herbal diet pills I had taken, and I have to wonder what it was I had put in my body.

Herbal diet pills are very popular these days as an alternative to more traditional methods of weight loss like diet and exercise. Herbal treatments in general are very trendy today, which I find a little worrisome for several reasons.

First of all, just about anything can be in an herbal diet pill. ‘Herbs’ are a kind of loophole in the FDA system, as they are not classified as drugs and therefore don’t have the rigorous standards for testing and safety that drugs normally get.

Make no mistake about it though, herbs can be every bit as potent and harmful as drugs. The difference between medicinal herbs and drugs is really quite vague anyway, as most drugs themselves come from a kind of plant or herb.

Most of the time the ‘herbal’ classification doesn’t last very long; the FDA eventually calls it a drug and brings in the scientists. When that happens herbal diet pills often either become available only by prescription or are banned completely. Snooping around a little from site to site selling herbal diet pills, it is clear that the makers of these things are all too familiar with the FDA.

Many sites even use it to their advantage saying things to the effect of ‘buy it now before the FDA bans it!’. You have to ask yourself, if the FDA is likely going to ban an herbal diet pill you’re interested in, should you be taking it at all?

I took a few herbal diet pills in college once on a whim, and I didn’t eat anything for nearly two days afterwards. I also didn’t really get much sleep either. Anything that makes you wired like that and kills your appetite so completely just isn’t good for you.
