Excess weight doesn’t just affect physical appearance. It is also detrimental to health, and can reduce your overall quality of life. Weight loss brings on a whole host of benefits including relief from depression, increased energy, improved self esteem and plenty of admiring looks. With so many benefits it’s no wonder so many people are seeking a weight loss system that will get them super slim. And with summer coming – then it’s even more of a pressing issue.
But, before you embark on any weight loss plan, it’s advisable to seek medical advice. The more overweight you are – the more important this aspect is. Doctors may not be the best people to advise on ‘how’ to lose weight – but they can certainly spot any techniques that are detrimental to your health. Remember there is no point getting slim if the process damages your health, or worse your internal organs. Any real weight loss program will address the following; what to eat, what NOT to eat, how often to eat, and your activity level.
The following are just the basics of what you should look for.
Firstly keep in mind that the fastest progress comes from a holistic approach. Work on your attitude to food and exercise, your lifestyle and your eating habits / food choices.
Second: Whatever you do, don’t set yourself up for failure by getting too ambitious with your goals. Surely to lose 20 pounds slowly is better than to aim for a quick 40 and to get nowhere. When you have achieved your first goal – then set another slightly more ambitious one.
Third: Listen to your body. Everybody’s metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs and plans. If you start to get adverse reactions to the diet plan – then ease off and go see your doctor. Maybe you’re just not used to change, but maybe your body is trying to warn you about something serious. Also pick an exercise program that is suitable for your body. You may not be up to some of the more demanding programs out there. If walking is all that you can manage, then walk often. Remember that muscles burn more calories than fat, and muscle also looks better too.
Fourth: Eat more fibre, and fresh vegetables. This will really help your digestive system. At the same time drop ALL junk food – yes all of it. You can allow some back into your diet once you have lost the weight – but whilst dieting junk food is a big no-no. Eat balanced meals and eat regularly. Don’t skip meals or semi-starve yourself. That’s the quickest route to failure.
Fifth: Keep away from fried foods especially deep-fried. Wherever possible grill your meat and eat your veggies slightly steamed or raw. Try to make meals from scratch as pre-processed foods are low in vital nutrients and usually high in salt and chemicals that could block your progress.
Sixth: Most importantly you must keep hydrated in order for your internal organs to work hard flushing out all that unwanted fat. Alcohol and coffee should be out – or at least heavily reduced. Yes coffee is not the diet miracle that you may have read about. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
If you have realistic goals and a bit of determination, then you will make it for this first goal and that will give you the boost to go for bigger goals. Remember to employ all of the above aspects into your diet. Don’t be fooled into thinking that one aspect can be skipped and it won’t matter. These key points all depend upon each other to succeed. Drop one and you will halve your results.
Finally remember that this diet is temporary and should soon be followed by a more lenient healthy lifestyle that allows for occasional treats.
